Saffron is an herb which is native to the middle east and Iran. But these days some other countries such as Spain, France, and Italy are also now cultivating and producing Saffron in small quantities. It is important to know that today, more than 95 percent of saffron is producing in Iran. Almost all Saffron in other countries such as Spain, are re-packing and reselling Iranian Saffron.

Saffron as a special herb in the world with beautiful purple flowers, is also the most expensive herb and spice around the world. Saffron with the scientific name, Crocus sativus, has a wonderful aroma and fragrant. Also great taste, special color, is other properties of Saffron.

Saffron is cultivated in some parts of the world, especially in middle east. It also has various usage such as cooking as a great flavor and aroma, food industry, medicine and supplement industry and etc.

Saffron contains plenty of wonderful active ingredients that has antioxidant property. Antioxidants are special substances that can fight against free radicals and oxidative stress in the body. One of this ingredients is Safranal, which is responsible for Saffron taste and aroma. This substance can improve brain health and boost memory. Saffron is the stigma part of the herb. Each Saffron flower contains 3 stigmas. Also famer can harvest only about 4 kg of Saffron from each hectare of farm. In addition, the saffron must be harvested by hand in the early morning. The time that Saffron flowers are still closed, so its quality can be preserved.

According to the studies, Saffron extract could improve cancer in the patients. An active ingredient in Saffron which calls crocin, can inhibit the growth of some cancer cells. Hepatic, prostate cancer and skin cancer is the examples that saffron had impact on them. In addition, Saffron is rich in carotenoids, which can improve the anticancer effects of Saffron. Another research shows that crocetin (other saffron ingredient) can inhibit duplication of some kinds of cancer. This will happen by inhibiting an enzyme that can be seen in cancer cells.

Saffron also has antidepressant property. According to the researches, saffron products can significantly decrease the symptoms of depression. Also studies have shown that, consuming this herb can act as some chemical medicines such as Fluoxetine and Imipramine. These 2 drug are famous medicines for depressant treatment.

Many researches have shown that saffron can be effective for treating learning and memory disorders. For example, using definite dosage of Saffron per day, can improve  Alzheimer’s. In addition, crocin in saffron, have shown antidepressant impacts, so it can be used for depressant cure and relive.

Studies also confirmed the effect of saffron for supplying better blood circulation for the brain. This effect can lead to treat depression. Antioxidant properties of Saffron is also responsible for these effects of Saffron.

However, it is good to emphasis that saffron can be harmful if you use it in extremely high level.
