Valerian Extract Syrup (Anti-anxiety)
In Iranian medicine, Valerian has long been used as sedative, hypnotic, antidepressant and anticonvulsant. The presence of Valeric acid and Valproic acid in this herb, which is one of the strongest sedative compounds, has turned this product into a good alternative sedative chemical drugs such as Barbiturates and Benzodiazepines. In a study on 60 people with anxiety, Valerian and Diazepam drug were compared, which no significant difference was shown between the effectivness of both products. Biochemical studies also show that Valeric acid in Valerian inhibits the enzyme responsible for catabolism and GABA degradation, and so increases the concentration of GABA in brain tissues. Increasing the concentration of GABA in the brain reduces the activity of various brain nuclei and causes calming effects. The results of studies have shown that the compounds contained in the extract of Valeriana plant have an adenosine-like activity and activate the adenosine receptors. Activating these types of receptors will activate the pathways that ultimately induce sleep
Valerian as Hypnotic
If you have an anxiety disorder, you may be depressed. Some people with the disease use medicines to cure itself. It may, of course, be temporary, and finally can provide even worse conditions. In fact, using natural resources and herbal supplements can be a good option with no adverse effect. Insomnia treatment should be follow up, which one way can be hypnotic medications.Studies have shown that Valerian reduced the time required to fall asleep, improving sleep quality. So, if you can’t sleep, it may be the best cure for it. Unlike chemical drugs, Valerian has no adverse effects. And also the chances of sleepiness and morning fatigue are less with using of Valerian.
Scientists have found that Valerian could increase the rate of Gamma-aminobutyric acid in the brain. Gamma-aminobutyric helps regulate the activity of neural cells and reduce anxiety. Medicines like Alprazolam and diazepam also act with an increase in the Gamma-aminobutyric acid levels in the brain. Valerenic acid acts as an antidepressant agent.
It is very wonderful that a plant-based supplement like Valerian may have a similar effect on reducing anxiety. But without the side effects of chemical drugs. Valerian with an increase in Gamma-Aminobutyric acid can boost relaxation. Whereas calm is in the opposite direction of stress, Valerian can be a natural way to control stress and improve the quality of life.
